One of my favorite recurring themes. Here I expose the beauty in the grotesque and explore the fertile territory between the misshapen and the well made.

I find surface manipulation endlessly fascinating. From gentle undulating patterns like erosion lines or bark to the more geometric rhythms I have been exploring lately.

I work with a playful attitude. Some of my favorite pieces came from making a mistake. Turning an unexpected outcome into something successful is fun and rewarding.
The discomfiting humor derived from making explicit the familiar corporeal forms inherent in ceramic vessels references the dichotomy between self-recognition and our causal relationship with objects.

This one is the fourth member of a set but it was lost in the studio after the bisque. I glazed it in classic blue and white diner mug style as a gift for my best friend. An amusing overlay of my goofiness on her good taste.
This is my first crack at an idea I've been kicking around for a while. I entered this fun-loving set into my studio's most recent challenge: to create work that explores play in ceramics.
